HOPE
Hope came with the flowers
The scent of them freshening the room
Flowers coming with good wishes
And hopes of return to health
Daylight brought hope of another day
The time for the birds and their song
She sat alone watching the birds
Their song was free, so free
In her room she smelt the flowers
Heard the birds greet the day
If the birds sing tomorrow
There will be hope she thought
And the birds sang

Space
Space to, emotionally, breath
Space to think
I don’t need much
So let me go
I’ll come back
Better you know
Batteries of patience
Need re-charged
Understanding, rejuvenated
In a flash
Next time
I ask for some space
Let me go
I’ll come back
Better you know

To My Auntie Jean
Dear auntie Jean
How are you?
Do you still have
A dimple or two?
You start to laugh
Your dimples go in
Your dimples go in
Your eyes light up!
You wore glasses
Always, I think?
But they did not hide
Your dimply eyes
Albion street and the
Mobo horse
I had a go in your
Livingroom
Round the back
Looking over the railings
Children playing
In a FIRE STATION
Your visits were special
You gave of your time
Your “FOX FUR SOLE!”
Engraved on my mind
I thought!
My auntie Jean must
Related to “The Queen”
Lovely memories of
Hoganfield loch
Your wee dog Shandy
What a tonic
He more than equalled a
Double Brandy!
On the bus to “ma auntie Jean’s”
My big sister, wee brother and me.
My mum and dad on a sail
“Doon the Water”
All day spent at my
Auntie Jean’s
At Riddrie knows wee cosy
Wee home
I can still see wee toby jugs
All in a row
In the sitting room
Of her cosy wee home
Dear auntie Jean
Can I get a shot
Of your sewing machine
(controlled by your right knee)
You said “Yes”
I had a ball
I even made a tea towel just
For “ma maw”
All of my life since then
I have sewn
Ballgowns, bikinis, soft
Furnishings galore!
You sparked me off
A “BIG THANK YOU”
I’m just off to sew
A ballgown or two
Dear auntie Jean
I can smell your famous meringues
Double dickered with
Fresh cream
Love you always
My auntie Jean
In my mind’s eye
My classiest relative
To “The Queen”.

Who Am I?
My first is in guinea pig but not found in mouse
My second’s in Elephant and also in louse.
My third is in rabbit, it isn’t a cat.
My fourth is in budgie. You’ll find it in bat.
My fifth’s in iguana. It’s absent from lamb.
My last is in lion, but not found in rain.
If you put first things first
You’ll know who I am.
I won’t need to draw you
A big diagram.
If the answer’s not plain yet,
And that’s what you feel,
Imagine the scene
As I race round a wheel!
